1986 Oscar-nominated documentary about the colorful look at the life and work of an innovative artist, Red Grooms. Grooms is both subject and host as he sketches people in the streets of New York, traces his aesthetic development to his home in Nashville, and conducts a tour through the two-and three-dimensional walk-in works he calls "picto-sculptoramas."
Traveling with the artist back to his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee for a retrospective of his work, the film reveals Grooms's early influences, while commentary from Barbara Haskell, curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, offers insight into Grooms's pieces and their place within twentieth century art.
