"Chances: The Women of Magdalene" is a feature film documentary by Tom Neff about an organization named Magdalene which recovers prostitutes off the streets and attempts to restore them to society by giving them a free home for two years. Created by the visionary Becca Stevens -- herself a victim of sexual abuse -- the film follows a number of women in various stages of recovery. They tell their stories of alcoholism at age 5, abuse at age 7, prostitution by their thirteenth birthday....
Women in the Life are literally pulled off the street in front of our eyes by Magdalene residents and then struggle within the program to keep clean. Some of the women who have graduated after two years of clean living are now helping the new women to find themselves. The women work in Thistle Farms, a cottage industry they have formed that creates womens' beauty products and which is used as a workshop to teach the women of Magdalene employment skills, ranging from packaging to accounting to sales.
