Until recently, “outsider art” - the creative output of the handicapped, psychotics or the criminally insane – was a secret form of art. But that’s all changing. “We want them to develop their personalities and abilities. Art is a therapy,” explains instructor Klaud Mecherlein. L’Art Brut or ‘Outsider Art’ is art entirely free from formal artistic rules.
