The Documentary Channel Launching World Premiere Documentary “Speed Dreams,” Featuring Mobil 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 12, 2009) — The Documentary Channel® (DOC) announced today that it is launching a unique multi-platform marketing initiative designed to highlight Mobil 1, the world’s leading synthetic motor oil brand. This program covers a wide range of on-network and online media components over four months in 2009.
The centerpiece to the effort is an all-new original 24-minute documentary titled “Speed Dreams,” which offers viewers behind-the-scenes access to a cross-section of auto racing stars who are succeeding on the race track through a combination of persistence, focus, and technological advancements, including the latest developments in synthetic motor oil.
DOC will present the world television premiere of “Speed Dreams” on Monday, March 16, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary features Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton of McLaren Automotive, Porsche factory GT driver Wolf Henzler and drag racing specialist Jason Whitfield of Whitfield Racing, each of whom candidly discusses the personal experiences on and off the track that have propelled him to auto racing success. Directed by filmmaker Greg Whiteley, the documentary includes testimonials about the drivers’ dramatic improvement in performance attributed directly to breakthroughs in synthetic motor oils such as Mobil 1.
In addition to Mobil 1’s presence in “Speed Dreams,” the campaign includes branding on DOC’s primetime Tuesday night programming block, “Quantum,” for four months, along with Mobil 1 commercial units, branded lower one-thirds, billboards, promos, tune-ins and sweepstakes promos.
The effort also includes a plethora of online components, highlighted by a streaming version of “Speed Dreams,” in its entirety, on the network’s Sling.com channel (www.sling.com/network/189/The-Documentary-Channel) from March 16 to May 15. During this time DOC also will offer a unique interactive “Drive of Your Dreams” sweepstakes featuring Mobil 1 through www.driveofyourdreams.com. The sweepstakes, which will be hosted at www.driveofyourdreams.com, will award two grand-prize trips to the renowned Porsche Sports Driving School in Leeds, Ala.

From Monday, March 16 through Friday, May 15, visitors to the Web site will be able to watch outtakes and other video clips related to the documentary film, after which they will be asked to answer a two-question multiple-choice quiz. For each question asked, entrants will have the opportunity to increase their odds of winning the grand prize two-day trip to Porsche Sports Driving School in Leeds, Ala., where they will be able to experience first-hand what performance driving is all about by putting various Porsche models through their paces on the track and off-road.
