NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 26, 2008) – The Documentary Channel® (DOC) announced today the promotion of Kate Pearson and Barry Rubinow to senior vice president of their respective programming and creative services departments.
Pearson, based in the network’s corporate office in Nashville, Tenn., is responsible for overseeing all aspects of programming for the network from licensing to original production. Rubinow, in addition to managing DOC’s Los Angeles office, is responsible for overseeing all original production and post production for the network, as well as the design and production of DOC’s promotional campaigns in conjunction with the motion graphics department. Both executives report directly to DOC founder and CEO, Tom Neff.
“Kate and Barry are not only creative and hard-working individuals but also vital members of our senior staff, and I am honored to have them at the forefront of our network’s important programming and creative services divisions,” says Neff. “With expanded leadership from Kate and Barry, I’m confident in Documentary Channel’s current direction and future as the leading destination for all things documentary on television and across all new media platforms.”
Kate Pearson, SVP, Programming
Pearson came to DOC in January of 2007 with 15 years of experience in cable television, including 13 in programming and acquisitions. After starting her TV career as a video journalist at CNN Headline News in 1992, she joined TNT as a program scheduler in their Latin American division, and soon was heading up the programming department for the premium Latin American cable network Cinecanal (owned by Paramount, Fox, MGM and Universal.) In 1996, Pearson was hired by Hearst Entertainment to help launch their new all-age-animation channel for Latin America, Locomotion, where she was instrumental in creating the programming philosophy behind the channel (which is now Animax) based upon innovative, push-the-envelope strategies for attracting the widest demographic of viewers for the channel.
Moving to HBO Latin America in 1998, Pearson assumed responsibility for acquisition of content for their six digiplex channels: HBO, Cinemax, HBO Family, Max Prime, HBO Brazil and HBO Plus. She was solely responsible for the acquisition of all documentaries for the various channels, as well as family content, concerts, special events, indie films, and short films.
A Nashville resident who hails from Coral Gables, Fla., Pearson holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Theater studies from Emory University and a master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Middlebury College.

An Emmy®-winning and Oscar®-nominated editor, Rubinow joined DOC in 2006 and has more than 25 years of television production experience. While heading the Los Angeles office and working closely with programming, Rubinow prepares all films for airing, designs interstitials with the motion graphics department, and coordinates with the uplink facility located in Dallas.

Before joining DOC, Rubinow has been a supervising editor and post production supervisor on shows for NBC, CBS, Turner, Discovery, MTV, TLC, PBS, among other major cable and broadcast networks. He also has worked on feature films and television shows for Warner Bros., Paramount and Universal including “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Caddyshack,” “Miami Vice” and “Crime Story.” His background also includes developing the visual look of all the shows he has worked on, and contributing to the design and look developed for newer cable networks such as SOAPnet and Fine Living.
A native of Glen Rock, N.J. and a resident of Los Angeles since 1978, Rubinow earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology from Bucknell University and a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
