Documentary Channel to Premiere Cult Hit Sequel — “Johnny Berlin 2: Notes From The Dumpster” — in Primetime on Monday, June 16
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 5, 2008) – Documentary Channel will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the network’s runaway cult hit “Johnny Berlin” with the U.S. television premiere of its sequel “Johnny Berlin 2: Notes From the Dumpster” on the network’s “Primetime Premieres” Monday, June 16. The network will showcase both films back-to-back kicking off the evening with the new sequel at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed immediately by the original “Johnny Berlin.” DOC is available on DISH Network (Channel 197), and several broadcast stations in major markets including NYC TV (Channel 25) throughout the greater New York metropolitan area.
Produced by Black Shoe Films and directed by Dominic J. DeJoseph, “Johnny Berlin 2: Notes From the Dumpster,” picks up where “Johnny Berlin” left off, right after Johnny’s tour of duty as a porter aboard a luxury train ended. In the first film, Johnny talks about wanting to get off the train to go on a “writing sabbatical” in Cambodia where he is sure that he can live cheaply for months and thus have time to write his unfinished novel about a man who rolls across America.
In “Johnny Berlin 2: Notes From the Dumpster,” the film begins with Johnny lying in a hotel room bed, talking about how he gambled away almost all of the money he had saved for his trip while working on the train, and thus ended up destitute in Phnom Penh where he had visions of leaping off of a bridge into the Mekong River. Filled with the same profundity, existential crises and anecdotes as in the original film, “Johnny Berlin 2: Notes From the Dumpster” is the continuing story of Johnny’s oddball mid-life crisis and his attempts to overcome perpetual internal darkness in his own humorous, and often enlightening fashion.
“After receiving such an enthusiastic response asking to see more of Johnny after the original ‘Johnny Berlin’ premiered on Documentary Channel last year, it has been a delight working with the channel to create the sequel,” explains DeJoseph, founder of Black Shoe Films. “I’m looking forward to bringing more of Johnny’s day-to-day life to television, and I’m honored to have the film’s broadcast premiere on Documentary Channel.”
“The original film really struck a cord with our viewers, so we decided to join forces with Dominic and Black Shoe Films and become a part of the sequel as executive producers,” says Tom Neff, founder and CEO, Documentary Channel. “We believe even more viewers will become ‘Johnny’ fans after having the opportunity to see both films back-to-back.”
