Documentary Channel to Present U.S. T. V. Premiere of “RFK Must Die: The Assassination of Bobby Kennedy” Following 40th Anniversary of Political Tragedy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 15, 2008) – For the 40th anniversary of one of America’s most tragic political assassinations, Documentary Channel (DOC) will showcase the U.S. premiere of the controversial investigative documentary “RFK MUST DIE: The Assassination of Bobby Kennedy” on the network’s “Primetime Premieres” Monday, June 9, 2008, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. An encore telecast also is slated for Wednesday, June 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. DOC is available on DISH Network (Channel 197), and several broadcast stations in major markets including NYC TV (Channel 25) throughout the greater New York metropolitan area.

The 102-minute documentary, written, directed and produced by BBC reporter, author and filmmaker Shane O’Sullivan in 2007, is the result of a new three-year investigation into the controversies surrounding the assassination of Bobby Kennedy on June 5, 1968, as he campaigned to challenge Richard Nixon for the White House. It will be telecast in its entirety by DOC, which acquired the exclusive U.S. television rights to the film through London-based distributor 3DD Entertainment.

“Shane O’Sullivan’s film is a very controversial and thought-provoking documentary, and we’re honored to be able to show it to an American television audience for the first time,” says Tom Neff, founder and CEO, Documentary Channel. “The Kennedy assassinations and related conspiracy theories have both fascinated and infuriated Americans for decades. I remember being in high school when the RFK killing took place and the whole school and community was in shock. We couldn’t believe it. I remember thinking: ‘Not again!’”

Reports O’Sullivan: “There is strong evidence that Sirhan Sirhan was in a hypnotic state at the time of the shooting and that a second gunman fired the shot that killed Robert Kennedy. The authorities have never seriously investigated this case and new audio evidence of thirteen shots fired in the pantry means the case should be urgently reopened before key witnesses pass away and history is left with a seriously flawed police investigation.”

An expansion of his 2006 BBC broadcast, the Irish filmmaker’s detailed documentary about the killing of Robert Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles dissects official records, reports and a court case where the evidence entered does not necessarily add up to the conclusion that Sirhan Sirhan shot and killed the presidential candidate by himself. In “RFK MUST DIE,” O’Sullivan reveals new audio evidence that proves at least 10-13 shots were fired in the hotel’s kitchen pantry that night. Sirhan’s gun held eight. Also, extremely rare video and photographs show three senior CIA operatives and four unidentified associates at the hotel in the moments before and after the shooting. The CIA is one of the organizations clearly implicated in the conspiracy theories.

The film features Munir Sirhan, who tells how his brother Sirhan, currently serving a life sentence for the murder, has never been able to remember the shooting. Witness Sandra Serrano also speaks for the first time in 40 years about the girl in the polka-dot dress fleeing the scene, yelling “We shot him! We shot him!” And Dr. Herbert Spiegel of Columbia University describes how Sirhan was hypnotically programmed to kill RFK or act as a decoy for the real assassination.

“I’m delighted that Documentary Channel will air the U.S. TV premiere of ‘RFK Must Die’ to coincide with the fortieth anniversary of the assassination,” adds O’Sullivan: “Building public and media awareness of this disturbing case is crucial to persuading the authorities to reopen the investigation. DOC offers a wonderful platform to reach a new audience with the uncomfortable truths behind one of America’s most bizarre and enduring murder mysteries.”

In addition to its U.S. television debut on DOC on Monday, June 9, “RFK MUST DIE” will have its U.S. theatrical premieres in California at the Crest Theater in Sacramento on June 2 and in New York City beginning on the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, screening June 5-12 at the Pioneer Theater in Manhattan’s East Village. O’Sullivan also has a new book on the subject, “WHO KILLED BOBBY? The Unsolved Murder of Robert F. Kennedy,” being released on June 5, by Union Square Press.
