This Biscuit Continues to Rise

Monday, June 4th, 2007

The awards are piling up for “The Rise of the Southern Biscuit,” a documentary showing on the channel that unravels the history of those fluffy, buttery treats.
The 30-minute documentary produced and directed by Nashville’s Maryann Byrd recently received three Telly Awards for best cultural program, best use of music, and best documentary. Organized in 1978, the Telly Awards recognize regional film and video productions, as well as cable and television programs and commercials.
The Tellys come shortly after “The Rise of the Southern Biscuit,” received two Mid-South Regional Emmy Awards for best cultural documentary and best documentary writer. Byrd’s doc will continue to air on the channel, while the DVD can be purchased at the Doc Store (part of this Web site) along with a companion book, “The Biscuit Dive Guide: Restaurants and Recipes.”
