Styx, Stones and Viewer Mail

Friday, February 17th, 2006

As you may already know if you are a DISH Net subscriber, we are officially on the air. If you?Ǭ?ve already had the opportunity to bask in the splendor that is our humble offering to the TV airwaves, chances are your mind has been irrevocably blown by the wonders you have witnessed. This is a perfectly acceptable response to Doc Channel programming. Just pick yourself up off the floor of your home or office, take a deep breath and have a snack (not anything junky though, go for some carrot sticks or an orange slice). If we haven’t blown your mind yet, then simply remain calm, making no sudden move to change the channel or, God forbid, go outside. We’ll get to you soon enough. Seriously though, the response to our first few days on the air has been great. We’ve received tons of encouraging viewer mail (so far even the ones with expletives have been good) and someone even sent our CEO Tom Neff an anonymous mix tape featuring not only the musical stylings of Styx and Kiss (as well as a slew of others) but a recorded dissertation on the hidden Satanic content of the aforementioned artist’s music. All in all, not a bad way to start up a channel, though I must admit, I?Ǭ?m a little disappointed I haven?Ǭ?t received any mix tapes yet. No arrigato Mr. Roboto.

Planet Krulik

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

This week if you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve checked out the feature articles already, you may have noticed that instead of just posting an article about our ?¢‚Ǩ?ìFeatured Docmaker,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù we actually had the opportunity to ask the filmmaker?¢‚Ǩ‚Äùin this case Jeff Krulik?¢‚Ǩ‚Äùa few questions. Krulik was kind, concise and speedy with his responses. His films don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t necessarily try to save the world, save the whales or end homelessness, but they seek to do something that, as legendary filmmaker Preston Sturges once illustrated in the classic picture ?¢‚Ǩ?ìSullivan?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Travels,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù is of equal importance?¢‚Ǩ‚Äùthey entertain, they make us smile, and in at least a couple cases, they make us wonder. Want a documentary about stoned metal heads? Done. Mass amounts of porn archived by Library of Congress employees? Hmmm, done. Ernest Borgnine? Krulik has you covered. So check out the interview and then check out Jeff?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s website www.planetkrulik.com to see a few of his films for yourself. They?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re dolphin safe. At least I think they are.
